Privacy Policy
This policy covers The Usual, the personality test at theusual.bobbyhood.app and The Usual iPhone app, published by Bobby Hood ("we").
The short version
- There are no accounts. Your answers, your results and the name you type stay on your device.
- When you see results, we keep one anonymous row of scores. It has no name, no email address and no IP address.
- If you ask for a PDF of your results, your email address and name are used to send that one email and are not stored by us. Our email provider keeps its own record of that email for 30 days.
- Neither the website nor the iPhone app shows ads, and neither tracks you across other companies' apps or websites.
- The iPhone app is a paid download from Apple's App Store, with no in-app purchases. Apple handles the payment. We never see your payment details.
What stays on your device
Your answers, your results, your past tests and the name you type are saved on your device only: in your browser on the website, and inside the app on an iPhone. They are not sent to us. On the website, the Delete button beside a past test removes that test, and clearing your browser's site data removes them all. In the app, Settings > Delete all tests removes them, and deleting the app removes them too.
Anonymous scores
When a results page opens, the page sends one row to our database so we can see how the test is doing: a random id made for that test, how many statements were answered, which round it reached, the dominant domain, the Top 5 flaws and the percentage for each of the 20 flaws. Our database adds the date and time the row was saved, and if you keep going, the same row is updated. The row has no name, no email address and no IP address, and nothing in it identifies you. We keep these rows with no time limit.
Emailing yourself the PDF
If you ask for your results by email, the page sends your email address, the name you typed (it appears in the PDF) and your results to our server, which builds the PDF and hands it to our email provider, Resend, to deliver that one message. We do not store the address or the name. Resend keeps its own record of every email it sends, including the address and the message itself, for 30 days, as Resend's documentation states. The only thing we keep is a count of how many PDFs were sent for that anonymous test, so one test cannot send more than five.
Results links
A results link carries your scores inside the link itself. On the website, the results page puts that link in your browser's address bar, so your history and bookmarks can hold it too. Anyone you give the link to can open those results. The link holds no name and no email address.
No ads, no tracking
The website and the iPhone app show no ads. Neither contains advertising or analytics software or asks to track you, and the app never reads Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).
Your choices
- Email: never asking for the PDF means your email address is never sent anywhere.
- Deleting: see "What stays on your device" above.
Buying the app
The iPhone app is bought through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment under Apple's Privacy Policy. The app sells nothing inside it, and we never receive your name, card or Apple Account details.
Hosting
The website and its server run on Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver each page and request. We do not store it.
Children
The Usual is a general-audience entertainment test and is not made for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Sharing
We do not sell or share personal data. The anonymous scores stay in our database. An email you ask for goes to Resend only to be delivered.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
